Course Objectives

  • To preserve life.
  • To prevent the worsening of a patient’s medical condition.
  • To promote recovery.
  • To help ensure safe transportation to the nearest healthcare facility.
  • To provide psychological first aid & manage infection.
  • To manage bleeding & infection.
  • Management, reassurance & monitoring of the patient admitted to casualty.
  • Management of CPR.
  • Ensure safety of the first-aider.

  • Principles & practice of first aid. (6 hrs)
  • DRABC rule & how to help in life-saving procedures.
  • PRACTICE: DRABC
  • PRACTICE: Safety management of the first-aider in emergency situations.
  • CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) (9 hrs)
  • PRACTICE: How to observe responsiveness & consciousness? (Look, Listen, Feel)
  • PRACTICE: External chest compression (ECC).
  • Dressing & bandages. (9 hrs)
  • PRACTICE: Types of dressings & application of dressings.
  • PRACTICE: Types of bandages & application of bandages.
  • Injuries to bones (Fractures) (6 hrs)
  • PRACTICE: Causes, types & signs & symptoms of fractures.
  • PRACTICE: Management of fractures.
  • Shock (6 hrs)
  • PRACTICE: Causes, types & signs & symptoms of shock.
  • PRACTICE: Management of shock.
  • Unconsciousness & nervous system (6 hrs)
  • PRACTICE: Management of head injuries & skull fractures.
  • PRACTICE: Management of heart attacks, heat exhaustion, heat stroke & epilepsy.
  • Burns & scalds (6 hrs)
  • PRACTICE: Management of snake bites, dog bites, bee bites & wasp stings.
  • PRACTICE: Management of poisoning by gases.
  • PRACTICE: Management of poisoning by swallowing.
  • Transportation of casualties (6 hrs)
  • PRACTICE: Blanket lift & stretcher transportation of casualties.
  • PRACTICE: Transporting a case of spinal injury.

Projects

One project is to be chosen by a group of students (Maximum group size: 4).

  1. Design the ‘Rule of Nine’ for the area of burn.
  2. Design the management of CPR.
  3. Design the management of dressing & bandages.
  4. Design the management of fractures.
  5. Design the safety of first-aider & casualty in an emergency.
  6. Design the principles of first aid.
  7. Design transport techniques for casualties.

Course Duration

Theory: 250 hrs

Practical / Clinical: 350 hrs

Total: 600 hrs of classes

Final Exam

The final exam will be held at the end of the 6th month. A candidate must secure 50% to receive the certificate of (CEMGT).

  • Theory: 40
  • Clinical / Practical: 50
  • Internal Assessment: 10
  • Total: 100
